ReplyDeleteAs a member of the swedish rite of freemasonry i would suggest, as an idea for getting the "right" candidates to your lodge, to make it harder.
Might sound weird, but we see that keeping the veil on masonry attracts two types, either the fortune-seekers, or the seekers of knowledge. We can sift trough our applications and very easily reject those who seek on wrong premises, and it will show quite clear if we have a seeker of wisdom applying.
Now, time from application (Supported by two brethren) to initiation is around 6 months, where we ask the candidate a hefty bunch of questions, and already in that process we are able to thin out even more.
So, quality before quantity. And apparently it works pretty good, brethren tends to remain in lodge. And also, we have a more somber, mystique approach in lodge... No minutes are read, they are printed and hanged outside the lodge for anyone to read.
