I agreed with many of the suggestions for improving the Masonic experience, but I don’t uderstand how raisig dues could improve membership. It seems to me like it would do the opposite. To use a business example, if I had a product that wasn’t selling well, the last thing I would want to do is raise its price. I would be OK with increased dues only if there were improvements to compensate. Otherwise, I’m just getting less value for my money. Your thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. In my mind, Dues should be whatever they need to be in order to pay for the infrastructure we have. So if it costs 21k to run a building and you have 50 members, then dues need to be $420. You know what I'm saying?

DeleteBrother Robert, as I drove down to Lafayette Louisiana the other night for a work related school, I was finally able to listen to this podcast without interruption and I must say that this was by far the best one that I've heard in a long time. I'm not saying that the others are not good because they are; perhaps due to the fact that what each of you were speaking is exactly some of the same things that I have thought in the past. A lot of Brother Kennedy's view are spot on, a few are maybe not so much, such as a Grand Master serving a really long term. When the podcast came to a close, I was disappointed, I certainly hope that he returns to the show or maybe sit in on the Masonic Roundtable.

Bro. Bret. I think this ep was a great one also. Bro. Kennedy hit the nail on the head with a lot of what we all see within this fraternity. I think there are extremism too, but to be honest and fair, we just need to acknowledge our shortcomings and attempt to make things better and do it without being abrasive. How do we do that? I'm still pondering this.
DeleteIt's very hard, there is no doubt about it. I have asked a few questions recently in my local lodge, "why do we do this?", with the irritated look and response "that's the way we have always done it" but it's wrong according to what our Grand Lodge says is the standard work. There are many issues with Freemasonry today but I do feel that we will survive. I do think that consolidation would be the key but no one will hear of it. I recently attended a district meeting of 10 lodges, 5 of them had less than 3 representatives and the host lodge actually had 8 people. Although, this small lodge is strong with just a handful of people, their building is in disarray which is very sad. I have seen some lodges that are in pretty bad shape, they just don't have the members. At my home lodge, we are running quite a few people through the degrees but after obtaining MM, they never or rarely attend. I have been thinking on this for quite a while. We just can't keep them coming.......
